Kicking Off the Third Year of Fundraising!
By: Jake Marcus
Hi all, it’s been a long time since I’ve last updated this blog but that does NOT mean that Team Intestinal Fortitude hasn’t been active. In fact, it’s been quite the opposite as we embark on our third year of fundraising.
To close out 2012, we ran the Las Vegas Rock n’ Roll Marathon under Team Challenge. At every one of these events I meet great people and this year was no different. For all you Bachelor fans, this year we were given a bouquet of flowers from Sean Lowe for being the top fundraiser as he ran for Team Challenge Texas. Committee member Stephen Ivanoski also finished the half marathon and traveled with my father, mother, sister Alix, and committee member Brian Teague. It was an exceptionally run event this year, especially in comparison to last year’s event which had an abundance of issues. I ran it somewhat leisurely in a time of about 1 hours 25 minutes.
As we kick off this third year of fundraising, we have begun to promote our annual Team Intestinal Fortitude Dinner and Silent Auction/Raffle Event. This year, it will be held at Thorny Lea Country Club in Brockton, MA on Thursday, March 14 at 6:30PM. We anticipate this will be our biggest year as the event continues to grow. We are currently in the process of accumulating auction/raffle items and selling tickets for the actual event. This is a great event and I highly recommend attending. If you cannot attend, please spread the word or if you have any ideas for items to donate to the auction/raffle that would be great. In the past, items have included sports tickets/memorabilia, vacation destinations, golf outings, gift certificates, food, and we are open to accepting any and all items so feel free to be creative.
Unrelated to Team Intestinal Fortitude, but related to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, we recently have been growing our Junior Board of Directors/Young Professional’s Organization. This group had twelve people at the last meeting, which shows that it is growing. The age range is roughly low 20’s to mid 30’s and ranges from all types of professions. The two major goals we discussed at this meeting were how to expand the flag football tournament we held last fall at Gillette Stadium and to brainstorm ideas for a fun spring/summer event. We are open to new members so if you are interested or know anybody who is interested please contact myself at email@example.com
or comment on this blog.
Last but not least, I’d like to announce the addition of three people to the committee that just occurred this past week. David Rumrill, a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney (where I was able to intern last spring under him) will be a great addition. He has attended past events and will bring a vivacious element to the committee. Also, Kristen Brabants will be added to the Board. We attended the same high school and she is currently a Marketing specialist at Mortgage Master in Walpole, MA. She is very enthusiastic and full of great ideas so she will be a great addition as well. Jill Spatola has also been added to the committee, she does similar work as Rumrill but at Merrill Lynch. So, we have plenty of people in the financial services industry, which is always a plus. Welcome to Team Intestinal Fortitude!
For the next month and a half we will be hard at work planning the Dinner Event for March 14. Hope to see you all there.
