And we're off...
By: Jake Marcus
Hey everybody, sorry for the lack of blog posts but my final semester of college has kept me pretty busy. Between my five challenging classes, internship at Morgan Stanley, mentoring Team Challenge, training for the Boston Marathon, and trying to have a social life before I get into the real world has been an interesting balancing act.
Anyways, Team Intestinal Fortitude has quietly been making moves this year as we are above the $50,000 mark! Last year by the L O C O event we were approaching the $70K mark so we are on good pace. We will also have a longer time to fundraise as we are doing it all the way to Vegas in December.
The L O C O Event is March 13th and you wouldn't believe the quanityt and quality of the great items we have so far. People have been working very hard but I want to give a special shoutout to my mom Carol, my grandparents Enid and Arnold and my dad's assistant, Carol. They have been doing very well at organizing the event to make it even better than last year. There will be open bar and plenty of buffett style/hors d'oervues food so be sure to purchase a ticket for this fantastic event. There are only about 25 left so act quickly!
Also, I have been in discussions with the athletic department at Stonehill College to set up a wiffle ball tournament. It will most likely be late April/early May and most likely on a Sunday. If you don't go to Stonehill, please contact me and I can get you in the tournament. Teams of 5 is encouraged but there can be 3 or 4 as well. The price will be roughly 10$ a person but we are working out the details.
Also, the training is going good. I'm basing my training more on heart rate this year so I generally am going a slower pace than last year. My high school coach, Neil Levine, is devising the training program and has been a huge help. Unfortunately, I've gotten away from core/strength training due to my schedule, which I hope to get back into at some point for the month of March. My long run has been on Saturdays typically on the Boston Marathon course and I'm running 6 days a week. This week I'll hit 20 miles for the long run and around 60 miles for the week.
So thanks for everything and keep the events we have coming up in mind. Whether you can go, volunteer, offer donations/auction items, anything would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for the help.
